cone area

can u tell me why? not saying ur wrong just wanna know what other factors could make a difference
The car's cabin gain/transmission line function, and the way the acoustics and pressure interact in their environment. If this was in an open room, yes it would be true, but in a car its a whole different game.

Many competitors have gained by lowering cone area.

assuming that the installation is done right, and all variables good and proportionally the same, smaller subs, like 10's and 12's will hit all the same low low bass notes as larger subs, the 15's and 18's. only difference is larger subs will play the notes louder?
you are correct

i c.. thanks

Allow me to elaborate...
here's what the true sizes are closer to (and it varies depending on the sub):

BASED ON SUB SIZE

One 8" = 50.27

One 10" = 78.54

One 12" = 113.1

One 15" = 176.71

One 18" = 254.47

BASED ON ACTUAL CONE SIZE (the one that matters)

8" = 25 sq in

10" = 45 sq in

12" = 75 sq in

15" = 115 sq in

18" = 165 sq in
so why did you say i was wrong then edit your post

word, yeah alli have to go by is my horrible set up that was givin to me. i have a jl 12 @ 4 ohms on a sony (terrible and def not my choice) amp in a ported box. just kinda thrown together. my system was givnin to me if i could figure out how to put it together lol and so i did and now im obsessed

so still learning. thanks for putting up with the dumb questions

dont worry about it i just became obsessed with this stuff about a month ago.. i ask a lot of stupid questions still

umm...i edited the numbers written up at the beginning of this thread into there so you could have a side by side comparison between them and the real numbers
ok so if im wrong then why do they post this on sundownz website compair this to my calcs

cone area: There are different methods for calculating cone area, depending on the shape of the subwoofer. For round subwoofers, the formula for calculating cone area is Radius squared times Pi (3.14). Example: Take a ten inch round subwoofer; the radius of all subwoofers is half the diameter, so the radius of a ten inch subwoofer would be 5 inches; the radius squared would be 5 times 5 which equals 25. 25 times Pi (3.14) equals 78.5. And there you have it; the total cone area of a ten inch subwoofer is 78.5 square inches

btw the sony xplod 800 "clips"?

is that right? but the sub i did'nt think was drawing that much power?

from my understanding cliping is when the amp isn't gettin enough power

but what happens is the whole system skips, but i know its not the cd, and its only when its a loud, usually higher, bass note.

the sub is bridged (its a 2 channel amp)

and the gain is maybe 33-40% of the way up

the cone area isnt the whole size of the diameter. so a 10" sub would have ~ 9" of cone
