Computer Trouble(sound Device)

So I just bought a new computer(used). When I go to play a song I get

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

So I thought I knew what to do I went to Dell.com drivers and downloads. Clicked on audio drivers and they only had one audio driver to download wtf? http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=5GN3961&SystemID=DIM_P4_4700&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Any help would be appreciated.

If you bought it used, the first thing I would do is reformat the thing ... It should take care of that issue as well, assuming it's software-related ...
is this possible without the windows xp disc? It didnt come with one...
