Computer question

Just bougth my wife a new laptop this evening and it has wireless built in and would like to go wireless with our broadband (dsl) internet.

I'm not to sure what exactly I need to do this.

Please leave suggestions and recomendations here so I can get this up and running and get rid of this cat 5 cable running across my living room floor.

e bay links would be good or if someone is elling, tell me what ya got and price.

Get a wireless router. Get a wifi card of some sort for you PC. There is USB and PCI ones availible.

x5543957463 to above. They have wireless routers and USB adapters for PC's that are pretty much plug and play anymore. Pretty much.

Cable Modem>cat5>wireless router.

Plug in USB adapter to PC, follow any instructions for software or drivers if needed. Done.

I can get these for a much better price than wal mart.

D-Link DIR-655 = only router worth buying

Why don't you just plug your desktop into the router instead of making it wireless ? Wired connections are faster and more reliable and it's not like you'll be moving your desktop around your house ...

YES X10000000. The DIR-655 is a great router. I have one. Leave the desktop wired, it is a more stable connection and is normally faster than wireless, although I havent noticed a difference myself.

I like this idea.

could you recommend a router for me that will do this that isnt to overly exspensive.

D-Link DIR-655 is kinda pricy for my tastes.
