Computer people please help

My comp has a virus. It has a bunch of pop ups and it puts random shortcuts on my desktop. I tried running mcafee but it didnt help. I need help fast. I been trying for hours to get it clean. I dont want to have to clean out my whole computer.

take it to the pro's if you want to save any of your programs or info otherwise it sounds like you PC is ****ed reformat would probable be your best bet

I'd recommend running Spybot: http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd160.exe

if issues still occur beyond that, run HiJackThis: http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=3155&file=9&evp=3304750663b552982a8baee6434cfc13 - do not delete anything in HJT, just post a log so we can see what's going on.

mcafee and norton ****. im too lazy so i just ship it off to a pro. usually gets done fast and cheap, just look around.

someone can root your box just the same. Windows just gets it a little harder because its whats widely used. Not starting a windows vs linux fight though, I use both.

Me too. It's just every time you turn around some Windows user has a virus. I've personally never had one (other than the intentional times) in almost 8 years.

But when it comes to removing viruses the first thing people have to do is remove it from memory otherwise you will almost never regain control even if you think you physically deleted it. Once you remove it from memory, prevent it from getting back in memory, then physically delete it.

because more windows users are out there. Also the typical linux user is tech savvy enough not to open Buildabear.exe from the random email they got....

Ive never had a virus and dont currently even use an antivirus client.

also remember, not all viruses come from stupid users, they come from insecure software - exploits.

run hijackthis.. copy it to the machine from a flash drive or something. HiJackThis is going to show what's running so we can figure out what it is for sure and then help you with removal.
