Computer Issues

So ive recently got a computer i built running, and i realize now that i jumped into the ocean without knowing how to swim. First problem i had was the CD drive, replaced that, worked for probably 2 days, then it crashed. Reinstalled OS, next day it crashed. Found out it was the harddrive. Got a new one and the old one is pending return.

After all that i got a friend in town install the OS this time. Its been running OK now for the past week or so.

First off im getting a lot of errors in certain programs. First it was IE. Sometimes when you try to open it up a window will pop up saying IE has encountered an error and has to close. I reinstalled it and i think that made it quit for now. I also installed firefox as a backup.

After that i was in the middle of designing a box and sketchup was doing the same thing. It would open up but the window would pop up saying send or dont send error report. Rebooted and its been fine since.

Third is probably the worst. You'll be on it and all of a sudden itll beep, blue screen for a half second then it beeps and restarts. What is happening? How can i fix these errors?

Also ive been getting some random ones like the one in the pic below that i have no idea about.

start from scratch, load the os, then drivers, then a free anitvirus like AVG, then spyware like spybot S&D and be done...you can then put whatever you want as long as you know what you are doing

nope, what did you install on the computer other than windows XP?
do you have the proper drivers installed?

as for that pop-up on the screen shot is that from your anti-virus?
Sketchup, Winisd pro, firefox, Yahoo Messenger, Printer software, trend micro (antivirus) updated windows media player.

And whatever came with the computer.

Drivers came from the Mobo disk which came with the barebones.

Is there some other easy way? It took me a long *** time to update the 2002 version of XP and get all the programs installed.

Can i just make a backup disk?

Well, you obviously have some pretty serious issues. The question of why will require some diagnostic software. I use PC-Check from Eurotools at work, but you can also download some free diagnostic tools using the Ultimate Boot CD, IIRC. Run diagnostics on the CPU, memory, motherboard, and hard drive.

If that all comes up fine, the next thing I would do is disable all unnecessary background processes and services to see if it's software-related. To do this, click Start > Run ... > Type in msconfig > Select Diagnostic Startup > Click OK > Restart.

If it's still doing it, then you might want to run a scan on the primary partition. To do that, Click Start > My Computer > Right-click on C: Drive > Properties > Tools > Click on Check Now > Check Both Boxes and Click Start > Restart your system if prompted > Wait for the scan to finish.

You may want to try reformatting it again. This time make sure you format it using the NTFS file system and DO NOT use the quick format option.

If you do all this and it still doesn't work, RMA it to Newegg and/or return it for a refund.

Tried the diagnostic startup, and im guessing it was fine because i go no errors and firefox would load but the internet wouldnt work.

Im currently trying out the diagnostic tools.

Another error. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif

Ive never seen this one before, it just popped up when i rebooted last.

After this one came firefox wont run so ive been using IE.

Right now im considering just restarting from scratch with a reformat.
