Alrighty, my main harddrive has been making clicking sounds ever since i built this puter, so im guessing its goin out perdy soon. So, i bought a 160gig external to back up all my files, and im going to trash the main harddrive and reformat, using my secondary as the main.

Question is, is there any certain order in which you would update all the drivers and whatnot?

I know when i did the first format, i had issues upgrading the drivers on my graphics card because some of the windows updates i didnt have wouldnt allow it.

Im guessing update motherboard drivers first, then just go at it with the other stuff?

input would be great!

okay .. wait a minute .. so your going to format the clicking HD? and have all your info stored into the 160gb one? How many HD do you have ? Which one are you using as the main>?

lol sorry guys

my computer has two harddrives in it atm, one is the primary drive (the clicking one), and one is the secondary drive (stores all my backup files)

i just bought an external hard drive. Im going to transfer any files i need to that, trash the primary drive, and reformat the secondary drive to be the main drive.

all i wanna know is how to go about updating everything, and if doing it in a certain order would be better. like, updating motherboard drivers before anything else or whatnot.

i guess im just looking for tips

What i do .. i partition my Main HD .. into 2 partitions .. one for windows .. about 30gigs .. and the rest is for programs(approx. 200gigs) so main HD is 250gbs. I then have an additional HD just for **** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ...

Well generally what I do is install my mobo stuff and then I install my graphics card drivers, sound drivers, then any apps that I use. But I make sure that I have a copy of firefox around to install instead of having to use IE to download it....that way I start fresh with Firefox.

I don't know if there is really a good order to do things thats just how I do my installs.

Back up all files to external, unhook drive 1, load winxp disc in drive, format OS partition with ntfs ~30-40gb depending on size of drive, complete xp install, format data partition with the rest, load files onto backup partition.

Basically what everyone else said. As far as drivers I always load motherboard drivers and video card drivers before windows updates. Make sure you have the discs you need for drivers, or download them and put them on the external, just in case your NIC drivers don't autodetect and you have no net access. That happened to me before and I had to go to a friends house to download the drivers from there, pain in the ***.
