Computer gaming question

I just picked up Doom 3 just for a lil something to play on the computer, but i have a few questions...

I have the graphics set on level 3 of 4 , and when i wanted to go to the highest level it said that it was like 500 mb and was not recommended..

and when i was playing the game it wasnt choppy it just wasnt super smooth when i would be looking in different directions quickly

When i was downloading the game it said i might need to update my drivers or install divx, anything i can do to get the choppieness off and make it a lil smoother since according to the recommended requirements of the game i have much more than is needed

the 500 MB of memory i was talking about it actually said texture memory.. Is that my vid card memory ?? if so i only have a 256mb nvidia 7600...

my 256 MB nvidia wont handle doom3?? that seems odd considering thats a good card these days and the game is 2 yrs old, but is that what it means?? with the 500mb warning? i need a 512 card or bigger?

I believe your card can run the game. Although it won't be great, I think it should still do the trick.

First off, make sure nothing else is running in the background (messenger, weatherbug, etc)

Check the settings in the game and change the sound settings to low or lower than they are. Also, make sure you don't have the AA (anti-aliasing) on.

If you do all of that and it is still choppy, trying turning the graphics all the way down and then playing on each setting until you get to a point where its choppy, at that point turn it down one notch.

Also, what proc and how much RAM do you have?

actually its a decent card. your system isn't bad either. although doom3 is pretty old, you can prolly play FEAR (much better fps game) at medium settings.

THAT REALLY SUX i was looking at fear and another one .. cant remember the name but it started w a P .. i also plan on buying the new half life 2 ( special edition when it comes out on the 23rd of this month.. ) any suggestions?

Ur graphics card is allright, but still...

Lacks the pixel processors and vertex processors, as well as the buss speed. BTW all this also contributes to fill rate of the graphics card and what not... see::

FEAR at medium settings still looks great ... and HL2 will run at high settings, I would bet ...

just curious.. isnt HL2 supposed to be one of the best PC games ever? if so how is it able to run on such a weak computer.. i cant believe that doom 3 would take more power to run than HL2

So .. like i posted b4 what settings should i run my laptop on with these specs

core 2 duo 1.66Ghz

2 GB memory

160 GB hd

jmac.. when im in the settings it says that it auto configures to my computer .. but it sets it on medium. 2of 4... should i leave it at that or os there something i can do to get to a higher setting

FEAR and Oblivion are the two most demanding games out right now ... To play either one at high settings w/ a decent resolution, you should be doing at least 4000 on 3DMark06 ... A GeForce Go 7600 should be somewhere in the 1500-2000 range ... It's about equal in performance to a 6600GT ...
