Ok my boss just ordered a bunch of compustar remote starts,keyless He has been installing directed for years but he wants to give these a try, Anyone have any experience with them and are they comparable to directed?

i would take the compustar over the dei alarms and starters any day of the week. My friend sells both and he also likes the compustar better, they have better range and just as much if not more features. Best alarm or alarm/started on the market if you ask me

I would do Autopage or Compustar over DEI myself. I was looking for an alarm that did paging, and every friggin DEI dealer tried to sell me an alarm with remote start. Although it can be done semi-safely, I really don't like the idea of putting a remote start module on my vehicles because they are both standards. Another reason I choose to install myself over the locals is due to the fact that they are money hungry nuts.

All the local shops charge $250 for a basic alarm install that does not even include a starter or fuel pump kill due to liability purposes NOR does it cover the cost of the alarm. In other words, all they do is install something that locks/unlocks the doors, flashes the parking lights, and turns your dome light on when you disarm it with only door/hood/trunk pin switches and a basic shock sensor. If you want a battery backup, that is another $50 + the cost of the battery backup. If you want another sensor, that is another $75 + the cost of the sensor!

ETA: I forgot to say how great their installs are. 75% of the local installers zip tie the alarm control module under the steering column and they don't even secure the plugs. How long would that take your basic thief to disable? At least when I install my alarm, it is WAY out of the way, and all my plugs are zip tied into place on the brain! Could it be defeated? Sure... As long as you put a compustar starter in reservation mode every time you want to remote start the car its not going to drive away.

As long as you put a compustar starter in reservation mode every time you want to remote start the car its not going to drive away.

Not only that, but it's an additional level of security, too. Once you hit that brake with no keys in the ignition, the car is dead.

If you're worried about a manual driving off on you when you remote start your car, you need to sell it and buy a moped because you clearly shouldn't be driving a car. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif It's impossible, ya know.

At my old job, in 2005, one of the ladies had her son's truck drive through her house when her granddaughter was playing with the keys to the truck. Homeowner's insurance denied the claim due to the fact that all the safeties were overridden in order to install the remote start module. The automobile policy also denied the claim on the house and truck, again due to negligence and the fact that safeties were overridden to install the remote start module. The jack leg installers just bypassed the clutch safety to allow the vehicle to remote start:wow:

There was $25k in damage to the house and the truck was declared a total loss. She had to pay for her house out of pocket and her son had to pay a note on a vehicle that he could not drive

I know that it is now safer for standards to be remote started because I think some of the newer units will rely on the parking brake being engaged to allow remote start as well as incorporating some additional safeties. I just don't have a use for remote start. Does DEI make a two way paging unit that does not include remote start? If not, why should I pay for an additional feature that I am not going to install or use?

compustar is an awesome product. i have one of their systems on the F150. it makes me want to rip out the viper 5900 i have on my yota. the 5900 is garbage. its one mile range has failed me twice when i was less than 50 feet from my vehicle. first time my two zapco DC's walked off. second time the roof got vandalized by some punks who wanted to steal my ski racks. $8k and a new roof later.

So does Autopage, hence the reason I have started using them! I am going to look into Compustar before I get the aftermarket alarm for my Mustang. Regardless, I have been more than pleased with the Autopage RF-420LCD that I installed in my Civic when the factory alarm went out.
