comps letting off a smell?

alright, thanks.

I read another thread and it said that they let off a smell because it passed the thermal capacity adn theyre going to be cooked soon?

something like that.. scared me. haha

yes, theyre brand new comps. I was scared it was the coils burning.. which is why i posted.

theyre 80 rms 100 peak running off a 75 watt x 2 amp at about 40% gains, when i turn them to about 55/62 and if its a demanding song.. ill smell something, it doesnt smell like its burning, it just lets off a smell.

its not foul at all, its kinda like when you open a brand new box with new stuff inside.

What do you have your high pass filter set at on your amp? Set it to around 80hz. Most component speakers won't like the sub bass.

i learned that the hard way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

my xovers in my HU are set to 80hz. but the smell still shwos up sometimes. its somewhat pleasant, but still scary.

Max volume for me is about 50/62 on my HU. When mine were new they might have emitted a less potent odor for a short time, but if I were you I would take it a bit easier on them. Mine are supposedly getting about 70 and they have a 125 watt RMS with a much higher max wattage.

why run the radio that high? i never run my radio past 3/4 volume.
I like loud music //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I like to feel the music, it gives me a smile when it sounds really good pouding like that.

but for now I'm taking it easy, readjusting my gains every so often when I dont feel as good about them.

so you're saying raise the gains on my amp and adjust it so about 45/62 is my max? why is that?
Because your preouts on your radio clip at full volume which will clip your amps. You have a similar radio internally to my pioneer TV and I set my gains from about 40-45 with great results. On music that has bad recording and you want a lil more oomph...you can play it at like 47-48. However, with the rainbows I hope you only play good quality recordings...with mine any bad quality songs are very very apparent.
