Complete Noob, a question?!?!?

Hi guys,

I'm completly new to the whole car audio thing. I own an 2000 Honda Civic SI, and trying to make a good setup for under $500. I want Amp + Sub(s) + Head unit all under $500.

This is what I am looking at: (I mostly listen to Rap, Hip-Hop, some Techno, and a some old rock. Want the system to have bass)

I've never heard of MA Audio or SoundStorm before.

My questions are:

Are these good brands?

Will the system punch a lot?

Are these reliable? (Will they last)

No, those brands arent that good or really reliable, theres better out there and you can go with a 1 sub setup that would suit you

Not sure on your tollerance of bass to know if that setup will be enough punch for you

Clarion is good but really no experience with that HU, im not a fan of the lower end Clarions jus my opinion, but im sure it will serve its justice with you

Would 1 15" Alpine Type-R sub setup or 2 RF Punch subs be better with an Infinity amp?

i would say the type r would probably be more reliable than the MA's

Depends which ma's you get....the xl's and up are pretty good..they don't have that much sq...mostly spl subs....

D@^^N i just price checked some type-rs and they only about $120..... i didn't know they where that cheap...

One 15" Type R will get very loud to a n00b.

The subs/amp you suggest are.. . garbage, sorry to say. This 1 12" Alpine Type willl with this amp will BLOW what you suggested out of the water and be more reliable.If i were you for 500 bucks I would get:

this leave money left over to buy a box. You are better off getting it Locally at any caraudio shop instead of paying shipping for such a huge item. since your on a budget a prefab. box is fine. Enjoy!

I am still looking around and saw the JL Audio 12W1v2-4 12" 150W 4-Ohm Subwoofer for the same price as the Alpine Type-R, the JL sub has almost perfect reviews, would the JL be better than the type-r?
