Well guys Im in the process of freshing up a 93 caprice. I plan on complete sound deadening using second skin audio products. I need a system, not a big or really expensive system, but a decent one. The problem is Im a complete newbie when it comes to decent car audio, so far Ive been lucky if any of my vehicles have a radio that works, so something like a half way decent audio system with 4 to 6 speakers and an amp is something I know little about.
Im still a little ways off from the building a system part of my build but I want to get an idea of what I need and what stuff to look for so I can gather it up as it presents itself at a decent price.
My wants: 5 or 6 speakers total
Due to the door and panel design Im pretty much limited to 6.5" speakers up front. I figure 100 bucks ought to get me a decent pair. should I be looking for 2 way or 3 way speakers?
6x9's in the rear deck. I want a fairly good set of speakers here. Just by guesstimation I was figuring about 150 bucks on these.
subs.... here Im not sure. I want some bass, not rattle the mirror off the window bass but enough that you can feel it. I dont wanna cut any holes in my rear deck and I dont want any big boxes that take up a bunch of trunk space. I was figuring either 2 8's or 10's. Im not sure what Im looking at here as far as price goes. I know theres alot of cheap junk out there.
Amp, I need power to drive this stuff. I was guesstimating 4 channels, 2 for the 6x9's and 2 for the subs. How much wattage should I look for? What is good yet not too expensive amp brands?
Head, after reading alot of posts Im figureing about 250 bucks for a the head, either a pioneer or alpine. I want something with Ipod controls.
Speaker wire.... I need to know what kind/gauge speaker wire should I look for.
Noise filters. Do I need them? What ones? Where to install them?
Crossover. Do I need a crossover?
Capacitors. Would my system need a cap? I know there is much debate on whether these are worth a **** or not. Im not sure if I will have enough power to drive all this. I have a big battery and a 140 amp alt.
Anything Im missing?
