comcast - job offer - any employees?

back in late july it was a mutual agreement that i left my previous employer...

to say the least, they are a small business who planned on hiring young men (18-22) at labor rate under the table, provide no benefits, nothing. i worked for them for a year and a half, eventually got them to put me 'on the books' but i still was getting a huge portion of my income under the table.

i considered them my friends, we hung out on weekends, shot guns, went to steelers games, etc. the boss/friend kinda thing. anyway as SOON as i mention making more money (rather, getting my income on 1 check rather than under the table) ...as soon as i mention that all of a sudden i'm "slacking" and they "can't have me working for them anymore"

anyway after that i applied at a million jobs, one being a tier 1 tech rep for comcast at an inbound customer call center. $12/hour. not the BEST but hell of a lot better than 8/9/10 an hour under the table. i was just curious, i see that there are SOME benefits (ie free cable tv/internet, etc) but i was wondering if anyone ever worked for comcast, and how they are with employees? i know it varies on location but im going for the application/possible interview in an hour..anyone been employed by them before?

If you are making $9/hr under the table or $12 on the books which works out to about $9/hr or so after taxes they are paying about the same and you should just pick the one you like best.
benefits of working under the table:

- cash instead of a check

benefits of working on the books:

- build your credit

- provable income

- higher credit card allowances

- ability to get car loans & other types of loans

- ability to say you legally worked at XX employer at XX (12) an hour (under the table, you cant do that)

i'd MUCH rather work for 12/hour on the books and take home a legal paycheck than work for 9/hour under the table. under the table will get you nowhere.. i did it for 2 yrs..

i was just curious if anyones ever worked for them and could vouch that they are a good/shitty employer..

Under the table doesnt put any money into your social security, and even if you dont think you'll ever get it in 40-50 years it still provides a disability benefit if you ever get seriously hurt and have put enough time (and money) into social security.

take the job, i just got a job there a few weeks ago its awesome. the people are awesome (at least here in washington) and the free internet, tv and cheap phone is ****in awesome. im 18 and i start at 14.25.

Comcast ****ing sucks! I hope that company goes bankrupt, their corporate buildings all mysteriously collapse, and every employee in the company goes straight to hell.

**** Comcast.

im a tech

yea, your retarded

tech...like they send you out to houses?

reason i ask is cause a friend of mine is a dispatcher? for them and makes 10+ an hour. not too bad for sitting on your *** all day if you ask me.

i wanna join the team...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

maybe washington's labor rates and product prices are different than everywhere else, but i HIGHLY doubt you're making 14.25 to start a tech position at 18 years of age.

UNLESS you're a dispatch tech, which again i highly doubt they're going to entrust a comcast van fully loaded to someone who could still be in high school. a simple peering through the call center i was at, i highly doubt anyone there was under 20....

do you even have a hs diploma yet? even if you do, you haven't even had enough time to have a decent amount of "work experience" let alone walk into a job making almost $15 an hour. my bs meter just blew up.

i know there are just certain openings that pay good, but unless washington has a higher minimum wage than here in PA, it takes a minimum of 2 years in school and/or equivelent job experience to walk into ANY job making that much.

I know here in Florida the techs dont make a whole lot, as I am a DirecTV tech and make pretty good, but travel alot. I am actually a subcontractor for DirecTV and there are days where I can make $500 and days I dont make Sh1t!

Comcast is all local around my town, but way less money. I'd say try it, and see how you like it. If you like it, try and get on as a satallite installer in your area. They make pretty good bank! I know we do here in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, as I cover the N. Florida and S. Georgia area and we have two more techs that cover N. Georgia and S. South Carolina.

i went on the interview, all seems to have went well, apparently HR has the final hire call so i have to wait until monday or tuesday to know for sure if i get the job / have to go take a drug test..

but i made it clear i want to move up and advance, but as an installer i doubt you'd make as much as someone who got certified (a+, mcse, cisco, etc.) and got a job through those certs. i know some mcse guys make 80+ a year..
