...do you feel that teachers hold smarter students to a higher scale when grading?

will a student that is a better writer get a lower score on a paper than a student that is not as good at writing? because the teacher is grading harder for the smarter student?

Yes, at times. In my English Comp class, the professor held a few of us to a higher standard. The professor demanded better work from us based on her perception of our abilities. An example; to pass that class at my school you must submit a portfolio that is graded on a rubric 1-6. 3 and up is passing. They are graded by 2 different professors to norm on a rubric score. My professor deemed my portfolio a "general 5", the other professor deemed mine a "high 6" (highest score possible)......However, this was the only class that I have seen this occur in.

It's all graded on the person. That's why the professor's image of you is so important, but they want to see people working hard so they don't like when an intelligent person doesn't put in much effort even if it beats the shit out of an idiot's work.

Depends on situation... what flips my lid is like in a few of my classes there have been people that are just for a better term slow.. you know there is no way on earth they could have passed high school without help and wonder who in the world could possibly have told them they needed to go to college rather then accept govt help and they will somehow pass tough college classes ... I know they pass these kids in high school knowing they are not going to be out in the general public doing important jobs and i understand that but how can you honestly give these kids a sympathy grade in college is beyond me.. what happens when they graduate and go apply for a job with a degree and they cant even do times tables.... just something that goes through my mind sometimes ...

Yeah a lot of the grading is subjective. If you talk more in class and they know your name you will seem to get a better grade or in other words they will be less harsh in grading your exams/papers. Also it doesn't hurt to talk to them after class or go to their office hours once in a while. Teachers love students who ask questions. If you participate and you seem interested any Professor will like that. It also depends on the size of your school. If you are in huge lectures and do not have separate "discussion" classes with "TAs" it is usually harder for the professor to get to know you and then the grading is more objective.

The best way to get by is never right what you believe, but what your professor believes lol! KISS ***! meet during office hours discuss take notes! BADA BING BADA BOOM!

if you try, your teacher will notice, and your grades WILL reflect the effort you put into it
