a while ago i bought a new HU, and pioneer coaxials all the way around. 5 1/4 in front and 6x9's in back. well.. with my stock unit (tape deck, with portable cd player hooked up) it was a hell of alot louder, with my stock speakers. now with this HU and these new coaxials, its like half as loud even when i have it at likr 40/46. any reason why? the HU is a POS, its a Dual. the black one with the fold out panel

It depends on a lot of things but I understand what your saying. Years ago, (and I mean years ago) I had a stock tape deck with a portable cd player with the adapter running the stocks in the doors. I evently swaped out the stocks for some polk ex 2 ways and a pioneer cd headunit.

The swap gave me much more clarity, but I lost a lot of volume. I think that it has something to do with the cassette adapter but it also could be because the factory tend to be pretty effecient because they cant handle that much power to begin with.

For your current sistutation, I would just buy a small amp to power your 5.25, and you 6x9. Should give you the volume that you want
