clipping a sub

hey i just read from http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=35875 that if you clip a sub i.e. if i push my amp into clippin (2000 watt max, 1000 @ 1ohm 500@2 ohm) then the wattage can be doubled and if my sub can handle 1000 rms then at 2 ohms i clip it to 1000 watts an its not hurting the sub, an if my amp is 1000 at 1 ohm then why is it bad, my sub can handle the extra power an my amp can handle putting it out.....

uuummmm ok then........did anyone read the link though?i understand the concept of thermal breaking points in electronics...... jus figured i'd throw that up in the air an get some opinions
