I called an audio place by me to inquire about an install and when I mentioned keeping my stock hu and said cleansweep the guy said it was old junk and there's much better stuff out now. Its been 5 or so years since I dealt with any car audio stuff so how valid is his statement?

just a hunch, but it sounds like the asshole just wants you to go in and buy the new **** they sell for a commission,.. nothing wrong with using a cleansweep to retain the stock source unit. greatest thing (in it's time) binvented for vehicles leased by audio addicts, although, there are better options

JL Audio has new OEM integration units coming out soon with more benefits. Cleansweep CL441dsp is a fine device, but some dealers don't fully understand how to implement it and it only flattens the stock EQ'd signals and provides an optional master volume knob.

Get a JBL MS8 its much better
MS-8 does great things but JBL no longer makes it and you can't buy replacement parts.

cleansweep doesnt do much, it just override's the head unit's internal processing. While other proper processors will have time alignment, advanced bandpass crossover + adjustable slope capabilities and 31 bands of parametric EQ to really give your sound shape and recreate a whole concert in your car. In comparison with how much the cleansweep costs, its outdated just like audiocontrol processors. Much better to have a real digital signal processor nowadays.
