Though I'm adept in most things electronic, and can tell good sound when I hear it - I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to understanding audio equipment.
I have a classic car that I'm installing audio into. (1976 Plymouth Volare) It's a former show-car, still in near-show quality, but I want to drive it. And that means I need to be able to hear the radio. But I want my cake and eat it too. I already have a 1.5DIN Pioneer deck that I could use, and it sound pretty fantastic, but I just can't handle the look. I want to keep the rare (NOS) Mopar head unit.
Here's what I have to work with:
MOPAR head unit.
Not sure the WATT rating, but it aint much, and only speaker level outs.
FRONT DECK:
2 x Infinity Reference 3002cf 3-1/2" 75W Peak
REAR:
2 x Pioneer TS-A6959 6x9's 150W Peak
SUB:
Infinity Basslink 10" Powered 200W Peak
Line and speaker level inputs.
What I'd like to do is supplement the head unit with a hidden speaker-level amplifier if possible. Maybe even one with an EQ? But I'm not sure where to start looking, how much to pay, how to wire it etc.
I don't listen to much with a big thump to it, so if I have to lose the sub, I can deal with it (but if I can keep it that's better).
But I also don't know what to expect from a speaker level amplifier? Can I use the dash MOPAR volume controls, or do I need a hidden control for the amp? Will it sound like crap? Is there any hope for me?
Thanks in advance.
