i just purchased one of these HU's i was wondering if anyone knows if it has that built in video security like alpine were i would have to ground out the wire that is supposed to go the the parking break. let me know

i talked to the installer at my local shop that i deal with which i am pissed at kuz they are dropping clarion from there line and i like clarion headunits. but he said that i have to ground it out (the green wire) and put a switch in it kuz other wise the brain gets a confussed signal

It sounds like your Clarion dealer is an idiot. Just curious where is it at? I am near Detroit and I got mine installed at my local Auto Ameristar.

Or the Clarion HU in question is like the Alpine, or he has them confused. If you permanently ground the Alpine pb input the HU isn't fooled... it has to see it turn on and off... helps keep them from being sued.

Clarion may have tried that - they were very gunshy in the past about liability...

They did try that.. in my owners manual it talks about how if the car is in drive, the screen won't be on

Mine is permanently grounded with no issues whatsoever. Just ground that wire out and you'll be fine. Forget the switch.

BTW, just put it in yourself, it's fun and a piece of cake.

I have a couple questions: Do you like your Clarion unit? And do you know if all you have to do is ground the parking brake wire in Kenwoods? Or are they like Alpines too?

I just installed the Clarion vrx945vd a few days ago...I love it! Got it for $400 cash too! Also, I grounded the parking break wire...no problems...can watch video anytime!
