Last week when I came out to my 94 C1500 w/5.7L truck, my Clarion DRX9575 H/U was folded down and the CD was ejected. I had no idea why it was like that.
The next day while I was driving home, I stopped to get gas. On the trip to the gas station, everything was fine. When I started my truck to leave the gas station, the head unit display stopped working correctly. It was barely visible on the right side of the display and the left 3/4 of the display wasn't displaying. As I drove on, the battery light came on. I went and had my battery and alternator checked and my mechanic said the alternator was bad, so I replaced the alternator.
Well, the problem is I'm still having the display on my H/U go dim on occasions. Normally when I head to work in the morning, everything works fine, but when I leave work, it's back to being dim. While driving home from work yesterday, I removed the face plate and then put it back on and it started to work again. I've tried that trick other times and it had no effect, so I think it was just a one time thing.
I want to say my volt meter with the old alternator was always around 14. Now it reads 14 when I start it in the morning and goes down to about 13.5-13.75 as I drive with no A/C on. When I turn the A/C on it drops down to 13.
I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm guessing/hoping it's something with the electrical system and not my head unit going bad since it all started last week when my alternator went bad.
Is there something I can check? Any ideas on what might be causing this?
I'm running the Clarion DRX9575 H/U, with the DPH7500 processor and a kicker ZR200 amp. (my best guess on remembering model numbers). I've been running this setup for several years now with no problems.
