Clarion Dxz785usb

Eh, this can become somewhat of a process. I'm pretty sure most online vendors, including iTunes, stopped DRM protecting their files. Even then, I'm sure you have been downloading songs from iTunes long before that ever happend. On top of that, they are probably in M4P format, which would needed to be converted anyways.

If you google M4P to MP3 you will find many sources. I don't want to start linking to many pages outside the forums. I'm not sure how many songs are in your library, but if it's 1,000 or so, it will take a few hours to convert.

the songs i currently have on my ipod are from some cd's that were converted by ITunes and put in my ITunes. What format are those songs that are converted with the current ITunes version? What do they need to be converted to? MP3?

Yes, they need to be in MP3 without any DRM protection. iTunes is the devil. I would suggest you get that firmware to modify your ipod so the PC can see it as an external hard drive. Then, you can just drag and drop songs onto it like it's any old drive. No more annyoing iTunes syncing everything.

Edit: Well, they don't HAVE to be mp3. They can be whatever your head unit accepts. Mp3 is just the popular choice.

Couldn't tell you where to get it, or if it's even a firmware or some kind of hack. I personally don't use ipod's, I think they are terrible. So many more attractive MP3 players out there with more features and sound quality.

Altering the files will not change the ipod features whatsoever, or change the ability to use the ipod interface with your Clarion unit.

Firmware wont help the ipod connect. Also pretty sure any other MP3 player (non-ipod) that you connect to this unit wont be able to do playlist either.

I have this model and tried to connect my older 30gb ipod photo and received the same error. I am thinking that your mini might be one of the older minis... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353

I bought an external 120 gb HD and put about 30 gb of music on it. THis unit's usb didnt have enough power to run the HD so I bought a power adapter with an extra usb to feed the HD the extra needed power. The unit has to read the entire HD before playing. If you switch source and come back, it will have to read it all again... So the more music on the HD the longer the "file read" time.

There is also no playlist, artist... intergration for the HD, so flipping through 512 albums can be a pain.

I grabbed my brothers newer 80 gb Video ipod to see it that would work with the source unit. Started to play instantly!. I just went and bought a used 30gb video ipod 5th gen on ebay for $130 and it works perfectly.
