Well...I'll start w/ this first off:

OUR SOUND BOARDS CHARGING SYSTEM IS LACKING!!!

-46A power supply

-Optima d34 batt

-Horrible Voltage Drops!!! (~10.5v!!!)

We are making a HUGE upgrade when when move everything into the sound room. Prolly 2 Kinetik 2000's or 2400's...and an 85A power supply.

Ok...Here is what I come up with

Clarion DPX11500:

Rated 1500w @ 1 and 2ohm @ 14.4V (Remember this, it will be very important later!!!)

Tested at 1ohm DCR w/ 2 Clarion PXW12's

50hz:

46.6V x 23.2A = 1081.21w @ 2.01ohm reactive

Current draw: 152.1Adc

Voltage Dropped to 10.23Vdc!!!

Power Draw: 1556W >>>>> 69.5% Efficient

60hz:

43.9V x 25.0A = 1097.5w @ 1.756ohm reactive

Current draw: 146.2Adc

Voltage Dropped to 10.68Vdc!!!

Power draw: 1561.4W >>>>> 70.3% Efficient

DO NOT DRAW CONCLUSION RIGHT NOW...KEEP READING!!!

Now...Look at like this:

This amp was seeing 10.46Vdc (on average) on burp. So...If they maintain 69.9% efficiency at 14.4V and continue to draw 149.15A (on average) they will produce ~1501.28W @ ~1.75-2ohm reactive.

I'm going to go out on a limb here not and say this:

I feel that this amp will be more efficient than ~70% w/ a better charging system (batts). The amp was only powered by 1 yellow-top and a 46A power supply...and the wire from the batt to the amp was Audio Pipe 4ga (prolly ~5-6ga really).

I'm willing to bet that our screwy voltage drop really hurt efficiency. If given say 2 batts and 1/0ga power/grd...I would say this amp could easily be 75-80% efficient. Those #'s are more than reasonable for todays Class-D amps.

Saying this...Look at these calculations:

13.8Vdc x 149A = 2056.2w drawn

At 78% efficiency that's 1603.84W!!!

(Hell at 75% its 1524.15W)

Now, lets put that into context.

Here is what a DD M1A did on our sound wall w/ the same charging and same subs.

DD M1A:

60hz

34V x 18.2A = 618.8w @ 1.87ohm reactive

Current draw: 72.1Adc

Voltage Dropped to 11.3Vdc

Power Draw: 814.73w >>>>> 75.95% efficient

Using the same 13.8V forula as before:

72Adc x 13.8V = 993.6 drawn

At 75% efficiency that's 745.2w...which is more that reasonable for the M1A.

So, I'm and going to stand by my original words and say this:

The Clarion DPX11500 will produce rated power and sounds great. It easily over powers our Autotek mm1400.1d on the sound board. But like w/ any 12V audio system, you have to be able to supply it w/ the current it needs!

***These tests were done listening for clipping by ear...I will most likely retry when I get my O-scope and we move everything to the sound room (w/ better charging system).
