clarion apa 450 shuting down

hey guys i have a clarion apa 450 amp i like it alot but the last few weeks if the bass is to high the amp shuts down is this right is there to much power for the amp to handle does anyone else have this touble?

the subs and amp are in a 2004 cavalier. i have the subs in the back the amp got mounted to the sub box so it could be over heating i am not to sure what the gain is at its the old ladys syst i got her for xmas. and i have one sub on the fornt bridged and one on the back bridged

i've been far from impressed with those amps. they leave a lot to be desired on a lot of fronts. turn the gains down and it should stop cutting out.

almost every one of those we've sold has come back and the customer upgraded to a better amp, with only a few exceptions. for mids/highs they aren't bad for a cheap amp. but for running subs, you can do a whole lot better for just a little bit more money. the alpine mrp-m350 is a ballsy little amp, and is very cheap. great for subs on a budget.

but for your situation, turn the gains down. you can overdrive the input on those amps very easily, they don't like a lot of voltage. and if you are using the high level inputs, ditch 'em. they're nothing but problems, on those amps the high level inputs absolutely ****. real loose and shady connections on the cheesy little plugs they give you and we've talked with clarion about the issue, but have yet to see any changes.

yup your right its a pc of s**t it was great in my boat but it sucks in my wifes car any ideas for a new one to run the two 10s

first off, what kind of 10's? the alpine i mentioned before will get the job done very well, and is pretty cheap. the mrp-m350, you can find them new for about 100 bucks if you don't mind ebay. cheap amp, and very good power for the price, especially when you run it at 2 ohms. it is an amp designed for subs, as where the 450 is designed to run mids/highs. mono amps = subs and subs only. 4 channel amps = will work for subs, but not meant for it. much better suited for mids/highs.

the alpine would do really good if u want to stick with the alpine name....its a solid amp
