Civics **** For SPL

I bought a eD 15k for my girlfriend but I decided to throw it in my car ('95 Civic Sedan). It's going to be in a 2.5 cu ft vented @ 35Hz running off 480W. Problem is I was concerned about rattling so i decided to visit some car audio shops for deadening.

After talking about some Dynomat the guy started telling me I have one of the worst cars for SPL. He said Civics **** for bass unless you're going hatch, otherwise just aim for SQ. He explained how they've put some excellent systems in Civics and it just wasn't up what they expected even after deadening the hell out of the car. So the guy basically told me my 15" is going to sound like a mediocore 10" at best.

The second shop agreed with the first. He told me I'm going to fill my trunk with a box and I'll get some bass but it won't be worth losing valuable trunk space for travel. He went on about 2 cheapo 12's they installed in a '97 Eagle Talon running 300W would put me to shame simply because of the car. Then he listed other cars like Neons, Sables, any hatchbacks, Contours, etc.. are well designed to be bass traps but Civics, NO. I said so what you're saying is I should sell my Civic?...

The answer was with 1 decent 15" in a box like that you should expect it to get hella loud, move lots of air at you, vibrate the hell out of you ... just don't be too let down when you don't get that in your Civic.

Am I missing something here?

Bah, hogwash. If they think Neon's are SPL monsters, they are wrong. Frame-less windows don't keep the cabin pressurized well.

Of course it won't be as easy to get loud as a hatch, but, I imagine you are not looking to be winning comps with the Civic are ya? Port that 15" and aim it towards the rear, and let them eat their words.

And throw away the Dynamat idea, and look into http://www.edesignaudio.com & http://www.secondskinaudio.com

Neons probably arent "SPL monsters", but I can tell you with a modest system, they make it **** loud. I put a single 12" Pioneer 304c sealed in my friends 98 or so neon with less than 300watts and wow does it get loud.

lmao, a neon was (now retired) the loudest trunk car in dbdrag

Anything can get loud, you just have to find what the car/install likes...

I would have zoned myself out right after he said a 15 would sound like a 10

i had a 97 civic coupe and hatch and as long as i had one of the seats down in the coupe it sounded really loud, but yeah the hatch still put it to shame with the exact system(jbl bpx1100.1 amp and a JL12w7in both).i mean it didnt change much to have the seat up or down but it was still pretty loud, now my hatch tho, when i would play the music in my driveway it would make the house windows vibrate.after i sold the hatch i got an 05' SI hatch and it puts BOTH of them to shame,it all depends on what you do really.

Its not the car, any good installer can make a sedan, hatchback whatever into a spl vehicle. You just need the right installer, box design, install, power wires... all comes together to make an spl vehicle. X2 on the neon, it gets loud trying for 152+ db's on the dash this year. Waitin for equipment. Anyways try finding a reputable certified installer with experience in spl.

i had two 15's in my 2000 civic and man did those things get LOUD the moonroof would flex like crazy along with the roof and the sound inside was great, but i put them in my friends 95?.? nissan 200sx and they didnt sound as close as loud as they were in my car with the same amp and i was using no more then 500 rms

because crx are hatchbacks and a relatively small one at that i also heard accords are bass traps as in hard to get them loud. i think old schools may be the worst. my single max had more "drop" than my friends 4 12's in a 72 lesabre. i have yet to try to move my setup in and out of cars since most of my friends that i would trust like that don't have thich enough wire to support my setup
