Circuit City VS Best Buy

It all depends on what head unit your using, stock or aftermarket?, what kind of car? some have factory amps that require a special harness to tap into. If its a stock unit count on a rca adapter, along with labor. And they wont be real happy about installing products you bring in. Local shop is your best bet, and keep in mind there in business to make money. I would take some time to learn a little about it, and tackle the job yourself. It is not that difficult, alot of people on this board will be willing to guide you in the right direction. If you have any questions send me a pm and I will help you get started.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That's nice offer, but I'd rather just let someone else do it. I really don't have the time.

I have an aftermarket head unit in and I could sort of tell that bring in my own stuff was strage to them.

But back to business, really choose your box carefully. Most experienced people will tell you that the box is at least as important as the subs themselves.
That's what I've heard.

I went with a vented enclosure. About 2.7 cubic feet total.

I'm not really doing this for huge spl.

I was going to get a sealed enclosure until about 3 days ago.

What are your opinions about this for my Alpine Type R's? Will I notice a big difference in SPL/ SQ?

I have never ran the Type R's, but my recollection is that they are, in fact, better suited for vented enclosures. In any case, generally speaking you can expect a boost in SPL from vented enclosures. Depending on how the box is built[tuned you can maintain SQ with vented. Some people, however, prefer a sealed enclosure.

I have no idea what size your box needs to be or where it needs to be tuned, but plenty of folks around here do.

Ok. Thanks to you and everyone else who posted here.

Neither they both **** and try to rip you off. I remember i went to best buy lookin for the tools to take out stock radio and i was just lookn at amp's and the guy came over right away u need a cap and i actually just started laughing . and i told em why he didn't say like nothing just walked away.

I"m auctually in Greenvile SC. (In Atlanta right now).
New question I suppose: Who here knows good install shops in Greenville SC?
If all else fails, drive to Columbia and go to Nortons. There are two of them. There is also a Tweeters in Irmo. I know there are more but I'm only up here for college. I live in Aiken, SC and we only have one place called Xtreme Audio.

Here is an idea: Go to the Kicker website or any other big car audio company website and find the search option known as "Dealer Locator" or "Where to Buy." Usually if you can find the place that sells the stuff, you can find the place that installs the stuff.

That's a good idea. Thanks.

I worked at CC and our installs were top-notch. My boss was very anal, and unless it was perfect, it didn't leave the shop. Only install I had come back was when I put rear speakers in a Trailblazer, and they came unhooked when the window rolled down.

I think it all depends on which store you go to (well obviously). Different roadshops are going to have different installers. While I would never purchase my gear from CC or BB (lower prices can be found elsewhere), I wouldn't hesitate to let the installers at my store work on my car. I get to watch them first hand and I must say their work is way above the expectations they are given. They are also not limited to installing receivers and speakers... a few weeks ago we did a really nice install in a new Jeep Wrangler - fiberglass enclosure and pods. We also are allowed to build our own boxes, really anything to fit the customers needs. So, to say that BB or CC has "below par" installation is nothing more than a blanket statement as mentioned above. You get different results from different stores.
