From my experience, and i don't know why maybe they design them that way, the mtx amps have to be either close to max gain if not all the way max gain for them to sound like they are making any sort of power. Its not just the mono amps, or when they are running subs, its on all their amps. I just find it kinda strange.

 
weak preamp voltages.

I've just found it odd, that no matter what radio i've ever put them on, that they always have to have the gain up high. I've never felt comfortable turning it up that high, but if i didn't the bass would never hit.

Granted i've never run an mtx amp on something like an eclipse or an rf headunit that has 5 volt or higher pre outs.
