Cigarette Prices going up...

so that makes it ok for the government to jack up prices? that way we can pay for wars.
Too lazy to read the whole thread to see if this was covered...

But yes, smokers should be taxed. Lifestyle diseases are the #1 healthcare expense in the USA and look at how our Medicare system is crumbling... look at how ridiculous health insurance... it sucks for the rest of us and smoking directly impacts health care costs.

And yes, this means I also think that junk food needs a tax. Obesity is a bigger health care issue than lung cancer. Double the price of candy bars too... thats fine with me. People that make lifestyle choices that make other people pay more out of pocket for healthcare should make up the difference... no matter if it's smoking, obesity, or drinking too much alchohol.

As for the war thing... not going to go there much, but whether cigarrettes are taxed or not they will still pay for the war. Either we tax smokers or cut something like education... either way the govt will pay for it somehow since they seem to think it's a priority (as you can tell I don't agree).

i guess smokin speeds up your metabolism and when you quit it goes back to the way it was before you even started
Not quite right. Smoking reduces appetite. Markus Ruhl, professional body builder, talks about smoking to reduce appetite for cutting in his video... look at his face, you can tell he's a smoker for sure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But anyway... don't just take his word, there are studies too.

When you smoke not only does your apetite go down you also dont taste the food as fully so it isnt like you are eating for taste, you are eating to fill you smaller apetite. Along with that it does slightly raise metabolism, not as much as caffiene and obviously not enough because when I do go to Mickey D's, 9/10 times there is some 400lb person chowing on 2 big macs with a cigarette in their hand...

If I go through the drive through I always get stuck behindthe minivanwith 5 fat women ordering so much beef they have to kill and clean a cow to fill the order...and 3/5 are smoking.

But stay off my candy bars! I'm a sweet addict in the off season. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

nah if that was the case people would loose weight by smoking. I think you just have a tendency to eat more when you have thoughts of smoking a cigarette
I was mildly addicted to chewa little over a year ago. When I was caught and had to quit I would run when I had a craving instead of giving in to putting something else in my mouth (food). Running has now become my new addiction...at least it is healthy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
