Chugging noise from subwoofer

Hi my subwoofer recently started making a chugging bass sound while switched on, so the bass thumps are not heard when they should be according to the music but randomly even when i turn down the volume on the radio. Also sometimes it returns to normal then does this again a few minutes later. What could be the problem here?

unfortunately I don't know much about installations myself, but I will take note of this and suggest it to someone who is more familiar with these things.

so this is a common symptom of the problems you mentioned right?

I wouldn't say common. It's not every day someone has noise and no music. It could actually be a few different things such as the amplifier itself being damaged.

I've just realised that if I switch off the car and turn it back on the subwoofer starts performing well again, only to return to the chugging noise within a few minutes. I'm really baffled as to why switching the car off and back on changes the sub's behaviour :S

you amp is doing it mostlikly. what is your HU?

HU is a kenwood, the sub is self amplified
