Ok so im looking to get a capacitor, but how can i know what i need, i was looking in ebay and theres so many different kinds of cap's theres some that say 1 fard some 2 farad, and the list goes on, how can i know what to get, the system i have is 1 kenwood of 1700 watts thats powering a 15" Kicker L5. and also have a jl audio 300/2 thats powering my voce speakers, but both my amps want more power, so i already bought an optima battery but now want a cap to give my amps the voltage they need, so how do i know what i want??

later, em

a cap isn't gonna help. first your kenwood amp isn't 1700 watts. refer to rms ratings. next ake sure to use proper wire size for your amps. next do the big 3. before you say what is the big 3, there is a sticky in the wire forum that says big 3.

this is exactly what you need. no need for a capacitor.

caps have their place....some amps do not have a large bank of capacitors inside the amp and therefor would benefit from the extra power regulation a cap offers. So while the anti-cap bandwaggon is in full force, most of the people on it wont give you a good reason why they're on it.

caps are better suited for sq purposes actually then helping a weak electrical system. i still shake my head in amazement when people always suggest adding second batteries for a weak electrical system. also we don't even know if this guy has electrical issues anyways

A cap would be completely useless on the JL amp since it uses a regulated power supply ...

and you've never heard of putting a secondary regulated supply on a dc to ac converter? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

What im suggesting is that a cap can be used as a ghetto dc to dc regulated power supply. In fact, its used often in carputer setups....I have one on mine.

does the brand matter?? and should i look for the higher frauds

well, get the highest farad you can afford I guess....the really only difference between caps doesnt have anything to do with the brand (i mean, come on its just a big wraped piece of mylar, mica and plastic)....only thing you can tell between the others is the ESR rating, and they're all pretty standard and the same these days.

You really cant screw up when buying a cap.

Average retail for a 1 farad capacitor = $100 or more.

Average cost of materials to do the Big 3 in 1/oawg cable =

Im still trying to decided if I should run one batcap or a kinetic in the back. Currently I still have my second YT, the 1st one doesnt hold charge anymore so thats out. Most likley going to go with a red under hood 3yr free replacment FTW & as for the rear still undecided.
