I just got this alternator from excessive amperage. It is a gm 225 amp alternator and include like a 3/8 or 1/2" spacer and fits perfectly. I took some pics of me puttin it in cause it's a ***** to get these alts in and out of these civics

First some pics of the alt

In this pic you can see the little spacer that is included

Here it is compared to the stock alt well that's a shitty load boss alt that crapped out on me but it's the same size as stock

Here is where it has to fit I already took the old alt out

It's crazy how this alternator sounds I guess cause of the fan on it but I like it and with all my amps at full tilt with rpms at like 2000 the lowest I will drop is 13.6 volts so I'm very happy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

You were able to get yours in from the top? I had to remove all kinds of crap and install my alternator from the bottom.

I only had to jack the car up, remove a motor mount, remove all the belts, remove the lower alternator support bracket, and a few other things that were in the GD way to get my replacement alternator in.

Question what year Civic do you have? I ask because I am curious about what you did to get around the ELD issues to keep your voltage from going below 13.6 volts.

You can get it in from the top kinda like fittin a puzzle piece in there LOL

It's a 00 civic should be same for 96-00 civics

I'm not sure what eld issues you are talkin about

My friend is an ea dealer so it would be around $460 or so for this alt

Oh the ELD is Honda's Electrical Load Detector. The tree hugging eco weenies for the USDM had that feature added to save on fuel economy. Basically, what happens is as soon as the electrical load detected through your fusebox levels out, the ECU tells the alternator to cut back charging voltage to 12.5 to 12.7 volts. When this happens, your HO alternator is rendered USELESS because 12.7 volts isn't jack for keeping a high wattage system going.

My 175 amp alternator in my 97 Civic was giving me issues until I had ELD programmed out with a P28 ODB1 ECU. Now, my ECU doesn't even know the Electrical Load Detector exists.

Ya I know exactly what your talkin about haha hell I'd drive around in the day time with my headlights on just so my alt would charge to 14 volts pissed me off this alt is just a one wire alt that needs 12 volt power when the car is on so it always charges to 14 volts I guess those other wires on the plug are that stupid eld thing I always thought my car was funky in that it only charged to 14 volts when I would go over 55 mph

Yo man, I got the same Gen civic. Can you take a picture of how you 'alt to positive post' is ran for your big 3. Also, whats it feel like with this alt opposed to the stock alt? Does it seem like it bogs on the motor a lot more?
