Cheap soundproofing material

Sorry to thread jack but where can i get a cheap heatgun and this roller you speak off? i still got like 20 ft of it left.
You have a local Harbor Freight and Tool? My heat gun is going on two years, and it still works! It cost $13 two years ago, and I thought I would only get one project out of it. To my surprise, it is still going strong.

Now that I said that, watch it die on me tomorrow:crazy:

Peel N' Seal works very well. I've done several installs with it and it works great. No smell. Easy to work with. We were carefull to clean the surface well (Simple green then alcohol) and heat the PNS and it sticks great. We even had to peel a section off to get at the speaker mount (unreleated to the PNS), and we were able to reapply the the PNS just by heating it again.

Even the butyl based deadeners are actually a combination of asphalt and butyl. I think the only ones that have no asphalt are the liquid deadeners.

The top end brands like SS and Rammat are great and worth the money for a nice car. But if your doing a budget system in a cheap car, then PNS will work fine.

A freind of mine bought a Dynamat door kit for $90 and there wans't enough material to do a single layer on the inside panel. Nothing for the outside or sealing the sides. With 4 rolls of PNS we did a much better job of completly sealing the outer/inner panels sides and all holes with multiple layers. Dead, for a fraction of the price.

I have yet to use a heat gun any any of the peeling deadeners. Now the ole school dynamat I did and what a bish that shit was to put on.

I have used fatmat, PNS, Hushmat, dynmat extreme, regular dynamat, Second skin Damp, stinger road kill and recently helped a buddy with the Cascade deadener and OMG, that shit is the next stuff I go with.

Honestly never had a problem with anything not sticking. Some were stickier and hard to remove if misplaced and some cut my hands and others were harder to mold, but nothing a little elbow grease couldn't fix.

Cost, nothing wrong with fatmat or PNS.

Expensive, I would go Cascade from now on. Middle of the line, SS. Hushmat is nice too, but a little overpriced IMO.

i used fatmat in my last car and never had a problem with it coming up. i used a hair dryer to heat it up, took a little longer im sure than using a heat gun, but it worked. also, it smelled for maybe 3-4 days but thats it. i might try the PNS if its cheaper and the same thing...

But if your doing a budget system in a cheap car, then PNS will work fine.
A better statement would be: But when I did my budget system in a cheap car, then PNS worked fine for me.

Asphalt is unpredictable, has little viscoelasticity to it and does quite poorly at converting vibration to heat.

Recommending peal n seal as a deadener, is pretty much like recommending closed cell foam as a blocker. Sad, sad advice...for the 7435834'th time. But, it does bear repeating as some people seem to be addicted to gambling with these products. I figure if you slap their hand every time they make silly statements it's only a matter of time.................but, I'm probably wrong................and should keep my facts to myself............right?

Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Now we just need someone to explain that butyl/aluminum foil is less expensive because it is so much more effective than asphalt. 4 times as much asphalt to get the job done - risk, smell, 4 times as much work and no real savings.

And then add to that the time, mess and pure frustration of going back and removing what didn't stick. At this point everything is lost and you ended up selling your soul to the devil to save nothing.

Take your $45 and to go Vegas. You'll have better luck there. And we all know the town was built on losers, yet people still get caught in the illusion that they will be the next big winner.

The absolute most expensive product is the one that fails.

i went to home depot after reading numberous of thread and didnt find anything that says peal & seal or jiffy seal. even a mexican came up to me and gave me his business card for roofing and i told him no im going to use sumthin like this on my car . he didnt understood anything i said except "CAR". so yeah i look stupid. lol. anybody got picture how it looks?

i didn't find it at HD either, but i did find it at lowes. never used it, thought about it.

it comes if i remember right, in a plastic bag, and the roll is like 6" tall with the aluminum backing. I asked aroudn alot too and everyone that worked there looked at me like i was stupid.
