charging a cap?

It should come with a light bulb. You hold your power wire to one end of the light then stick the other end of the bulb to the power side of the cap. It will kick on and the voltage will go up and the light will get dimmer when the light is no longer lit, remove it from the wire and cap then immediately stick the power wire onto the cap. There you have it your cap is charged.

Edit: On my old Audiobahn it would stay running for like a minute and after a minute of no power draw the cap will kick off.

Oh SNAP! I didnt know you could do this yourself???

There are places that charge for this service...check it out:

HAHA I should charge to do it, some people are retarded. I can see it now, open package hmmm what is this light bulb for, better not read the manual and take it to a scammer, I mean audio shop, and have them do it. HAHA. No in reality it's very simple to do and my 1 farad took me roughly 3 minutes to have ready to roll.

...... u do that when draining and when light goes out cap is drained. to charge the cap just hook it up to pos and neg and it will charge

Not all "stiffening" capacitors necessitate pre-charging before use.

Be certain the one you have is of the variety that does require it prior to attempting this process.

Well - if it came with a bulb or a charging resistor it's a pretty safe bet that it is one of the ones that needs pre-charging so disregard the above if it did.

No you don't. Sorry to tell you but to drain it you remove all wires and hold one side of the buld to pos on the cap and the other side to the neg on the cap and when it is out it's drained.

The easiest way to do it i to disconnect the power wire from the battery, Hook up the power wire to the cap. Then where your fuse normally goes, you touch one end of the resisitor or light to each end of where your fuse would go. Then reconnect the power wire to the battery. When the light goes out, its charged.
