CDT Audio "line" question

Does anybody know the difference between the CDT HD-62 components and the CL-62 components?

The mids look very similar but the tweets are the main thing that stick out as different along with the crossover. But the only difference on the HD crossover seems to be the extra set of tweet outputs for "imaging tweets"

Could somebody please chime in. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to pay an extra $80 for the HD's. Below are the links to the components.

I have yet to care for a set of CDT components. I owned their budget set and the 6.5" woofer was nothing to write home about. It couldn't reproduce midbass with any authority nor could it reproduce midrange with any clarity. I heard a set of their higher line in a friend of a friend's car, $750 for the components, and was NOT impressed with the price difference over the budget line. IMHO, for their premier line to cost close to 7 times what the budget line cost, one did not get 7 times the performance.

I agree with gunz4me2. You can get much better than CDT.

But, to answer your question, the HD set's woofer has a cast frame and 40 more watts of power handling.

The CL is the entry level and the HD is the below the top of the line ES series. The HD will have better sound quality and power handling as well as cost more. I am running the CL comps myself and am really satisfied with them. Mine actually have excellent midbass.

what do you recommend?

I'm more of a DIY type of guy these days. In my mustang I am running a Mach5 Audio MLI-65 6.5" driver with a Tang Band W4-1757SB 4" driver for my "component" set. In my Civic I am running the Alpine Type R 6.5 with the CDT TW-25 tweeter. While I did find the CDT tweeter to be a tad bit harsh, it didn't take much EQ to smooth it out.

For a set of boxed components, I would recommend the Image Dynamics CTX components. One of my friends swears by the mids in that component set after trying and not liking a bunch of different DIY mids.

I ended up emailing CDT with the above mentioned questions. Basically the only difference between the HD-62 and CL-62 is the tweeter and well the basket casting on the cl-62 is made out of cheaper metal. So for $80 more I'm paying for an upgraded tweeter and basket material. Not sure which one I'm going with yet. I have around $250-350 to spend on a set of components and I have a US Amps md42 to power them. So 180X2@4ohm....I need the set to be loud, clear and to blend well with my mb quart 8's. I drive an old 86 swb silverado

Update: I ended up purchasing the CDT CL-62's for $270 shipped! I got an awesome deal and well the HD-62's were over $80 more and I couldn't justify $80 for basically just "upgraded" tweeters with a more extended range. I'm sure I'm going to be more than pleased with these. All I need to do now is strengthen up my pods with some glass and a piece of mdf to sturdy up the mounting.
