Good day everyone!

I'm torn between choosing from the 2 HUs in the subject line and would like to hear some opinions and recommendations from the fine members of this board who actually used both. Any specifics as to why you recommend it would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thank you for your kind consideration!

I can only comment on the 9835 as I have no experience with the pioneer. I can and will say that I loved my alpine and never had one complaint. Lots of power and clean sound with a great EQ and the biolite display and motorized face and great color combos. A++ in my books. I would recommend this deck to anyone. Only reason I upgraded was for dvd/nav. Hope this helps

Thanks Tonyguy.

Thinking about it now, maybe I should've paired the upcoming CDA-9887 with the 880PRS.

No offense to the 9835 unit as I myself still would like to have one, but the 9887 seems to have features that would definitely rival the 880PRS.

In current pricing thou, a used 9835 is close to a new 880PRS and the difference between a 880PRS and the upcoming 9887 is about $80-$100.

The 9835 actually has more stock features than the 9887 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif better internal amp, larger better biolite display, ability to shut down the internal amp to make it a deadhead and the same eq, peq, crossover and time alignment features. Only difference is the dac and the ability to add on the imprint processor.

There are many used 9835's that are in great condition and some mint. I just bought 1 MINT unit online. Cannot tell it was ever used, not even a hairline scratch *LOL* Came with all original items, even the plastic bags. And some new 9835s pop up on ebay every now and again. They also go for 35-50% less than the 9887 will be. Also no wait for the 9887.

Basically you cannot go wrong with either deck.

I prefer the 9835, even if I had to pay the same price or a little more. The can be found in mint condition and new. Had a 880 and my Eclipse 8455 I felt was much better. If you can handle the glide touch the 9855 is nice also same features as a 9835. The 9835 is still considered by many as one the best SQ and Alpine decks ever sold.

The 9887 will have the same features as the great older Alpine units Bass Engine Pro like the 9835, 9833, 9855, 9853. It will have imprint but from what I have read is some how incorporated into laptop software for tuning not directly tunable with in the unit. It does have the Bass Engine Pro for on the fly tuning.

Yeah, I guess the 9835s could be labeled "legendary" eh?

So, you guys think that the upcoming 9887 would only have a few differences compared to a 9835........or atleast make 'em comparable?

While I dont have either units, would you care to spot 'significant' changes between the 9835 and the 9887 by looking at 9887's specs?

http://www.alpine.com.au/products/product.asp?modelID=291

One of my concerns is if the 9887 would have a better SQ over the 9835 'coz of its 24-bit Burr Brown DAC.

No significant changes at all, some better features on the 9835... the 24bit processor is promising but doubt you will hear a difference. I will probably buy a 9887 to test when it is finally available in the usa.

Yeah that's the thing.. The 9887 has an extra unnamed item to buy for the auto-calibration, which is included I think in the OEM processor version.. mike and software.

I have owned both, and additionally the DEH-P860MP and CDA-9855 and I prefer the 9835 (which is why I have one in my car). The 880 is nice, but I prefer the look feel and features of the Alpine. Especially the active x-over. Only thing I liked more about my 860 and 880PRS was the eq.

EDIT- once Alpine starts shipping the 9887 I will be ordering one, but who knows if I'll keep it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Anyone know how much flawless used 9835's with all parts (remote, manual, trim ring etc.) are going for?

Last "flawless" 9835 I bought was just over $300 shipped. NIB they are going for $375+ which is funny because I paid $349.99 new / shipped off ebay back in the day when the 9835 was new hahaha! My used / mint had everything down to the original receipt. Also yeah I do agree about the eq, would be without a doubt the all time overall best deck if alpine stuck a 7-9 band peq in the 9835. That is why I paired an h701 / rux controller to the 9835. I do not think it gets much better than this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And yeah, I think most of us die hard 9835 users are ging to be picking up a 9887 to give it a good try and compare. Wish they would have given the 9887 a larger biolite display DOH!

So, how many EQ does the 9835 have? Could someone explain what the h701 does?

Reason I'm scouting a new HU is because my P7700 is only a 2volt affair and my AC EQL is static ridden (its mostly on flat anyway).
