i think the "r" is for the uk radios

if you look at that they all have the "r" in the name.

Most companies use different model numbers for different regions of the planet where theie products are retailed. Kenwood uses different numbers altogether elsewhere in the world outside of the US...I would assume that the previous respondants hit it right on the nose ~ same radio....different region that it is meant to be retailed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The R in the European model number indicates that it has an RDS tuner. My old Pioneer deck (DEH-P920R) had RDS and you don't see anymore Pioneer headunits with an R on the end of them since they went away with RDS tuners.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And the reason the European model still has it is because RDS is still utilized in Europe.

ahh thank you i had an offer to buy a "r" unit pretty cheap.. would the radio still step the same as it does here??? i mean wil it work here in the us.. thanks

Hmmm........thats a good question. I know that RDS still exists in the US but as far as what frequencies the Euro model would have is beyond me. They may not have 88-107 mhz like we do here. I tried to find that on the Alpine euro site but couldn't find that info.

if it was a euro radio whether this rds tuner is a prob or not.... what about vehicle voltage... it THAT the same? that is what i would be worrying about
