well as most of you know, the cda 7897 is a hard deck to find; atleast for me it has been. but i recently found one at a local pawn shop that i'll be paying around 50-75ish for after taking some other things in for trade.

but it is only the unit itself and the remote, no trim rim etc. etc. it's got the wiring harness but the wires that are coming out of it are all cut, whichi guessi would have to solder ?

now i've only installed one headunit so far, which was a kenwood kdc-1028 in my truck. but since i've got an aftermarket unit already, should the harness work with the 7897 even though its a different deck/brand? if not, how much would another harness be?

also, is it worth getting even though its jsut the bare bones?

Just go ahead and buy the new harness. Soldering or crimping new wires on to the current one with short wires would be a PITA and messy. Just replace it, they're not that much IMO. I put one of those in my jeep and had to add another little capacitor or somethingto the wiring so the face would go in and out when it was supposed to. So you may have to do that but it will be obvious once you install it. I'd love to have another one of those units. If you decide to not use it, let me know and I would consider buying it if teh face is in good shape and the unit works. I miss my older one and it would look good in my new car.

thanks for the tip. and yea i had read somewhere that u needa put a diode of some sort in the remote wire b/c of the open/closing of theface. do u remember wher eu got the diode from? i think i may just call alpine tomorrow and ask.

and the face is pristine, esp. for a pawn shop find:D . no way i'll sell it if i do get it though, sorry man:rolleyes: i've been lookin for a 78-79 series for some time, i just wasn't sure if it was the one w/ or w/o the internal amp but this one has itso its all good. i'll be pickin it up tomorrow
