cda 7894 or 9835

I'm wanting to go back with the 9835 but I'm having a hard time finding one in good condition and at a good price.

I came across the 7894 which is a little older and at the time it came out I was still out the game for a while. How does it compare to the 9835 because I found a few nice ones at a good price.

I had the 9835 a made a mistake and got rid of it for the 9855 which is a POS. Now I'm in search of a HU. Another unit I like is the 7998 but feel it is overpriced.

i heard the SQ from the 7998 is a lot better than the 9835, which is already great...

if you mind simplicity, then go for a 9815, which basicly has the same functions of the 9835 with less eye candy...

7998 has issues with motorized faceplate wearing off, 9815 has issues with weak sub preouts thou... i dont know about the 9835 but i heard the faceplate is so made of cheap plastic i heard many complaints from users about it

I'd recommend the CDA-9835...best deck I've owned. I too went to a 9855, and while I think the Glide Touch could eventually be made really useful, I just didn't like the way the Glide Touch was implemented. I went back to a 9835.

I've used both...9835 hands down. The active Xover and EQ'ing is leagues beyond what the 7894 is capable of, and the Bio Lite display makes navigating discs a lot easier.

I never had a "buzz issue" with the 7894, not quite sure what you mean by that...

Yeah I would just dish out the cash for the 9835 cause it will be worth it...I had one as well...the head unit was just incredible and you know this already...But The EQ interface is way beyond the 7894's like Frost said

And some of your "opinions" are a little iffy - I know plenty of 7998 users that have had absolutely no problems with the faceplate (ask Steve - ss3079, he's owned one for quite a while), and yeah, the 9835 faceplate is built out of plastic, but what headunit isn't these days? It's no Denon, but the build construction is decent.

lets not go through this crap again... what i meant s that several users havehad issues with the 7998 motorized faceplate... you obviusly know one or more pople who have had thedeck fotr a fairly long time nd had no issuesv with it... im just teliing common problemsie seeen people having with these hus

I think I just pretty much elimated the 7894 from the contest so now it's between the 7998 and 9835..

I upgraded from a 7894 to a 7998. Although I liked the 94, the 98 has MANY more features and overall much better sound quality. and the Biolite display is WAY better than the 94's segmented LEDs. In all honesty, the 7894 isn't a bad deck at all, but it's not really even in the same league as these other two. I haven't personally used the 35, although I have seen and heard many owned by friends. It's a great deck. I would compare it equally to the 98, except the 98 has the XL fantomface, which I like. One thing that I would change about the 98 is the colors. The 35 lets you choose between 512 colors but the 98 has two: Amber and Green. The amber *almost* matches my dash, but not quite. And for the record, I've never had a problem with the motorized face on my 98 yet; let's hope it stays that way. Also, keep in mind that the 98 doesn't have an internal amp like the 35, which isn't an issue for most since we all run external amps anyways, but it's something to keep in mind in case you were wanting to run deck power to your speakers.

So, I guess it comes down to a matter of looks: The 98 with it's 2 color options and oversized, non-removable face, and the 35 with it's removable faceplate and choice of 512 colors. Other than that, both of them are considered to be near the top of Alpine's best decks in terms of SQ and build quality.
