CD7100 Question

After researching HUs for the last few days and spending the majority of today nursing a hangover and reading threads on HUs I'm at information overload. Right now I'm really leaning toward the CD7100 but I'm concerned about its file system navigation and the iPod browsing. I read one post that said it was only a single line UI for browsing which I have a hard time believing. Another post said that it displayed mp3s in 8.3 format, (e.g. mysong~1.mp3) even though the 7100 pictures I've seen show ECLIPSE SONG.mp3 on the display. Annoying extension showing aside, that's a lot more characters.

While the iPod access will be nice too, I'd like to have a decent sized thumb drive or two loaded with music for ease of access without having to deal with remembering to grab the iPod or connecting anything. Easy navigation is going to be a major selling point.

Any 7100 owners out there than can clear that up how the browsing works and what is displayed? Thanks!

I can't help you. i don't have an ipod and this is the second time i've ever used the USB.

I would be more worried how it sounds, and you can set the USB up to show folders with names or numbers, DL the manual, mine has a mic for auto eq of the parametric 7 band, its not the best Ipod unit I would guess, look at Clarion they have some nice USB units

Yeah, I've read through the manual (had to get it from Crutchfield.com) a few times but it doesn't really give the details, just a quick rundown on how to use the multi-function wheel to navigate.

it has more to do with how you drag and drop them over, the folder naming and stuff I do on the comp

I saw the play order diagram, which looks fine. Does it just show one folder name at a time or does it show a few with just one selected? Does it show the full folder name?

I don't really care much about the mp3 name truncation if that's just when browsing files as I'll only be browsing by folder. I'm hoping that during playback it displays the ID3 tag info rather than filename.

Thanks for the answers. I'm not going to get a chance to get to the stereo shop to check it out until this weekend and even then I don't know if I'll be able to hook up a USB drive and iPod or not.

Hmm, so I if I have my stuff stored in a artist\album\songs folder structure I'll see all the artist folders, three at a time right? Then when I select an artist I'll see the albums three at a time? Then finally the songs three at a time when I choose an album?

ARTIST3

...

Then after picking Artist2 I'd see

ALBUM1

ALBUM2

ALBUM3

...

And after picking the album I'd see

TRACK1

TRACK2

TRACK3

but it would start to autoplay the first track at that point right?

It does show the actual folder name, not just a generic folder1, folder2, etc.?

looks like numbers because I made 3 files and named them jazz, funk, and country? I will read the manual more
