CD fried my stereo?

I just purchased a new JVC KDG320 for my 87 Toyota Pickup. Installation went fine, and everything was working great for a few days. Then I put a CD in the stereo and it just shut down, no power, nothing. I tried manually ejecting the cd, there was no power so it didn't work. Then I tried to reset the unit. Still nothing. I checked the rear fuse and it was fine. Then I connected my old stereo up and it was working great. Any ideas on what I could do to test the unit?

thats a jvc for ya... they have a bad history of burning up.

Even though the factory radio was working, you may have blown the radio constant power fuse in the vehicle. Many factory radios will still work on accessory power alone, though they'll lose preset and clock settings when the key turns off. Aftermarket head units need voltage on both constant and accessory wires or they won't turn on. Check all vehicle fuses, even ones that aren't labeled as radio fuses. Test the other constant power features in the vehicle to see if they're still working; clock, dome light, door buzzer, cigarette lighter.

Just found out what happened. The above post was right on. I had small fuses between the fuse box and the new radio rated at 3amps. By putting the CD in the stereo, it blew the constant 12v fuse. The old radio "worked" because I didn't fully turn it on, and it used the lesser voltage to just power the face of the radio. By eliminating the little 3amp fuses and just relying on the main fusebox, everything worked out great. Thanks for the help! Also, shout out to my local circuit city, they tested my unit and for a minimal charge, fixed all my wiring and installed my radio (I think it was less than 25 bucks).
