Cat v Dog....round one

beagles are ******* anyway, they'd get along great. just make sure not to get more than 1 dog and the cat will be fine. had two dogs once, and i recall watching them rip a cat in half. good teamwork there. head popped off like a cork

Its all about socialization and training. If the two do have an issue just find a trainer in your area and he/she should be able to fix the issue in just about a week

You won't have any problems. I have a retired Police K9 at home and my current K9, both are German Shepherds. My wife has two cats. Roll up a newspaper and beat the brakes off the dog if he shows aggression at the cat. It may take a while but they will tolerate each other. If you get a puppy there will be no problem from the get go...G/L!

Oh yeah because beating your dog is the best way to get them NOT to show agression. If you do that your dog will just wait for you to leave then eat your cat.

Here's the scenario....my gf currently has a cat. I am currently buying a house, which she will move into in a couple months. At the house, I want a dog. However, we want to be sure the cat and dog get along. She can't have the dog at her place as dogs aren't allowed at her apt. She doesn't want to leave the cat at my house because she has the cat for companionship.
What is the best way to intergrate the dog and cat?

I am suggesting me getting a small newborn puppy kind of dog. In the 2 or 3 months in between times, the dog will still be pretty small and young. Her cat is atleast one...so they won't fight really as the dog and cat will be about the size.

FWIW, the dog I want is a beagle.
Beagles ****.

On a side note, I am glad to know that we don't share tastes in dogs as I was getting worried we may have too much in common.

On 2nd side note, I could care less how to get them to gel correctly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If they don't get along get ready for alot of broken stuff from the cat running around jumping on everything, and alot of barking. Especially from a beagle. Other then that the best suggestion was to try and get them together at early ages so they bond.

What if I brought the puppy over her apt from time to time so they get aquainted on his (the cat's) "turf"?

Take the puppy over there and try it out, they need to get to know each other. The more their around each other the better. With it being a puppy you have a better chance. One of my ex's mom and dad has a small dog and a cat, they walk around following each other around the house & they sleep next to each other curled up in a ball. They get along great. My ex had a cat and I had a dog, they got along good but always played the cat & mouse thing. We got the cat declawed because at the begining she was scratching the dog all up and diggen her claws into the furniture. We'd be kicken back on the couch watchen a movie, and the cat jumps off the steps, comes flyen through the air and attacks the dog when he least expects it lol. They'd start chasing each other from there. The dog would do the same thing to the cat, not jumpen off the steps but suprising the shit out of the cat and chasen it around. They never hurt each other but played alot. The dog I have now can't stand cats, she's older though. Definetly make sure you get the cat declawed.

Im not a hippy, just an effective trainer. If you knew anything about dogs you'd say the same thing. How n the hell did you ever become a K9 officer?

I dont have a cat they ****. I started training dogs when I was 8 and have won quite a few competitions with them . OH AND never laid a hand on one of em...

Im actually looking into becoming a K9 officer sometime. Some of our corrections officers get dogs and my dad knows the lady in charge of it.
