if he has a bank account, then my method will work as long as he has a copy your license.
email him your license. sign the check and "make payable to john doe" under your sig.

i've done it with personal checks AND payroll checks.

if he doesn't have a bank account, you could always just deposit it in your bank, then write him a personal for 600 and mail that.

you're making this way too hard.

Worked for my mom, but then again we have the same last name. Long as he doesn't try to drag the money right out, it should be fine.

More than likely his bank won't know your signature so he should be ok. Worth a shot. If it doesn't work you gotta take it to a bank and do things the long way.

Send the man a personal check for $600. Ask him to deposit your federal check for you at your bank (assuming there is a branch where he is). All he'll need to do that is either your account number or your SS#. After he does that, he can cash the personal check at the same branch. Problem solved.
