I dont know if I would argue its a sales scheme, name a subwoofer that has a record that is single stack?why not make the magnet wider? if you look at pro audio drivers, the magnets are short and wide as hell. they can take a beating and their super efficient. stacking magnets is a sale scheme
It also cuts down cost considerably. The larger ferrite mags are EXPENSIVE. lets take the good ole btl here for example (because its perfect for it.) the single 11.25" slug costs more than the 3 previous 220mm slugs Also- stacking magnets is an inexpensive way to gain more clearance. Again, lets use the btl for referance. Look at the backplate on the new one. it is very deep. that is for clearance. and again, that requires more steel to be used, and steel=costs more than small ferrite.why not make the magnet wider? if you look at pro audio drivers, the magnets are short and wide as hell. they can take a beating and their super efficient. stacking magnets is a sale scheme

Umm...idk about you but I seem to recall seeing many high end subs that people go nuts about when they see them, having very narrow and tall magnet structures. It also seems more efficient that way, but nothin wrong with a beefy *** tripple-quad+ stacked magnetwhy not make the magnet wider? if you look at pro audio drivers, the magnets are short and wide as hell. they can take a beating and their super efficient. stacking magnets is a sale scheme
