Carputer update

Ordered screen 2 days ago, ordered DC-DC PSU, VGA extention cables, USB extention cables, wifi USB adaptor, and a few 80mm fans last night.

Only thing that I need is an external enclosure for my other 80gig HDD (have an on-board 80gig HDD as well), GPS antenna and software, and Alpine Sirius tuner and Sirius CarPC interface.

All of that is going to come a little later...I either have everything, or have ordered everythign I need to install the carputer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Should start on the installation on Monday

Not trying to jump in your thread nova. But I am working on making kind of a docking station of sorts for my laptop in the car. I want it mainly for the easy ( read as cheaper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ) alternative for voice guided gps. I picked this garmin up at Staples. http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?ts=1138901390283&prodCatType=1&storeId=10001&productId=121686&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&cmArea=FEATURED:SC3:CG59:CL142864

I have been testing it out with laptop setting in the passenger seat for the past coule of days. It hasn't been wrong yet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just got the monitor in, hooked it up to my home PC to mess around with it...

Once I calibrated the touchscreen it worked great....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well the screen I got has 1.15 megapixels, same count as an Alpine IVA-D901

The picture looks awesome, I'm gonna play a movie on it later when I hook it back up.

Where are you going to be putting that screen in your car? Above the dash? Or does your console have space to fit a large screen?

I was also interested in making a carputer but im not sure if I am going to end up doing it since I heard that it can takes a while for it to turn on.

Am I correct? How long does yours turn on and start functioning?

I have a double din radio, the screen is the same exact size as my car radio.

The computer takes about a minute to fully boot up...but I'm going to set it up to go into standby when not in use most of the time so I can just pull it out of standby (takes a few seconds to do that). The PSU has a battery monitor so if the car battery drops too low it'll shutdown the PC.
