Got most of the parts in for my carputer. Waiting for the HDD, some cables, the screen, and the DC-DC PSU.

Hooked it up to my old HDD which I formatted, and my old monitor and PSU to load all the drivers and whatnot.

Hopefully I'll have everything up and running next week. Gonna pick up a slim DVD drive since the one I bought is too deep for where I wanted to put it.

can you get software or download a program that has like a eq and a crossover?
if you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost for everything?

I'm not so sure on the processing- I'm sure some higher end soundcards come with some nice processing software.

As far as cost, including everything I need (cables, add on devices- GPS, wifi adaptor, etc), I'll be right around $1100.

hey i was thinkning of doing this and hooking it upto my indash. I have a couple of questions for you. First what GPS are you using any link available? If the software is not included with tthe antenna what software did you use? How are you going to power it in the car? Are you going to be controling it with a basic keyboard mouse setup or do you have something else planned? Also is there a way you can integrate voice recognition into the system so you dont need a kay/mouse and just use voice commands? Thanks

Mike

As someone else who is putting a carputer in their car, I will provide my $.02. I am using a Rikaling 6010 usb gps unit, which can be found on ebay or other etailers. I have also heard things about a model named BU-353 which can also be found on ebay. GPS software is separate...I use IGuidance made by a company called INav. Others use CoPilot. Some even use Microsoft Streets & Trips, but it reportedly does not work well on a small touchscreen. Carputers can either be powered by an inverter (bulky and inefficient) or a DC-DC power supply. I have purchased an Opus powersupply from http://www.opussolutions.com. There are other companies out there, just make sure it is DC-DC. The installation of the power supply is fairly simple. You wire in BATTERY, GROUND and IGNITION. My power supply (Opus 120) even has outputs for turning on amplifiers so that you don't hear the "turn on thump" caused by some systems. The computer must turn on and off to prevent the "thump". Some people overcome this using a simple relay. I will hace a USB hub up front to attach a mini keyboard for text entry, but most of my interaction with the PC will be thru the touchscreen or voice recognition. There are several programs out there which include NaviVoice and Bruno's Speech recognition. Both can be found on http://www.mp3car.com, as can most of this other information. Check it out!

As for GPS, I might use the Streets & Trips 2006, buddy of mine just got the software and says it works a lot better then 2005, although I am still looking into iGuidance.

As for the PSU, I'm going with the M2-ATX. Unless you're running a heavy duty processor, like an Athlon 64, you're better off going with a DC-DC PSU.

I'm also doing a USB hub in the glovebox //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Mp3Car.com is a great site for carputer information

Always loved the concept of a carputer, hope yours comes out well. Could you post up some reviews of whatever GPS software you end up using, I would appreciate that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Will do.
