Carputer 101

Yes I'm a member but I don't post. Haven't gone to any meets.

I hibernate, too. Standby just never worked.

Where in NY are you? Last winter was the first winter for my carpc and I never had problems with the cold, save the touchscreen and a dull picture for a few minutes.
I'm in Queens/LI.

I only had problems with the touchscreen a couple of time when it was really cold other then that it works fine.

First of all DragonClub I know the difference between the two, I just thought the person whom I was posting that in response to might have gotten them mixed up. Did you read my post? Anwway, .::DuD3::., standby uses much more power than hibernate. I don't recommend using standby in a carpc unless you drive your car absolutely every day for a long time. Even then I wouldn't do it.
I'm sorry if I insulted your intelligence but I don't think I did because of this post you made. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Please don't give out false information if you don't know what your talking about or the facts. I have left my car in standby for 5 days without starting it once and I've never had a problem with it starting up. Many other people leave their cars in standby. You DON'T need to drive the car everyday. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

dragon, I can manually put my pc in standby...but it won't wake back up using the m2atx //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

this is caraudio.com I'm sure most of us has a decent battery. I know a lot of us have them yellow tops. so power consumption shouldn't be an issue.

what time do u usually get online spoon on aim?

i need facts if im going to put it in standby lol. i dont wanna go by 'well i never have problems' or he say she say. what are the facts, how much current does it actually pull.
I dont know about how much current. but based on other peoples, if it can stay on for a whole day without draining your battery then you shouldnt be so paranoid if its on standbye(90% of power consumption not used) u shouldnt need to worry...

how often do u drive your car? curious:)

My system pulls a little less then 2 watts when in standby. But it may differ for you depending on you setting, whether you use S1 or S3 mode (S3 is preferable) and number of USB devices you have connected.

You do what you want. if you wanna wait 45 secs to a minute to hear music then cold boot.

I prefer to be listening to music within a second or so.

im about to get a car computer

found a used one pretty cheap, about $200 and thats with 1.3ghz via chip.

the only problem i see is that i have na pioneer avh-5600 and it has a couple of video inputs on the headunit itselsf.

in order to hook up the carput to the the indash dvd player i have all the carputer needs is a tv output correct?

also for the audio part from the computer pioneer has a ip-bus to speaker jack, im thinking that all i have to do is plug the speaker jack into the sound card of the carputer and then plug in the rca's fro that cord to one of the audio inputs of the headunit. is ths correct?

the main reason that i want to install a carputer is because i just got the cingular BLACKJACK with the new 3G technology and when i tethered the BLACKJACK to the laptop and used the BLACKJACK as a modem i was getting speeds as fast as 1.4 megs download and 550kb upload speed. and that is faster then alot of peoples DSL at home is so i can litterally have a highspeed mobile internet car. the slowest speed that i ever got so far on the BLACKJACK is a little over 700kb download, which is stll pretty darn fast

thanks guys for your help

thanks for your help

ok i have a couple questions. i dont know if you remember but i was trying to see if i could use an old imac that we dont use any more for my carputer.

well i was talking on mp3car.com and found out that the monitor is not hardwired into the videocard, which alot of people were telling me. so now i guess all i need now is a monitor and a power supply, but i need to know what kind of chord i need to connect the monitor into the mac. i take it i need some kind of vga adaptor, but not sure which kind (theres a bunch on apple.com).

also what frontends do people use for macs? and gps?
