carpet tunes as a port?

home
got a friend who installs commercial carpeting and he has a ton of those heavy duty carpet tubes piling up. they are 4" in diameter and was wondering if anyone ever thought of, or tried, using these as ports?

I've worked at Tontine Carpet One, from what I remember they aren't that sturdy and get real soggy if wet. Same concept as the sonotube but not exactly the same. I say atleast try it, I could be wrong.

You could try to make the port longer, but there might be other reasons with the box won't extend lower, or even the sub. You'd have to reverse...
