I'm finnaly done putting my pc in.

1999 Grand am

7" vga touchscreen molded into factory radio cutout.

100 gb laptop hard drive

intel dual core processor

usb gps recevier

1 gb ddr2

The computer is in the glove box, right next to the blower for maximum cooling. The screen went into a 1 1/2 din slot, so cutting and molding was necessary. Two buttons at the top were relocated and a groove around the bezel was filled in.

Computer is running Windows XP, Roadrunner front end, Iguidance navigation, and winamp for the music.

On with the pics (sorry for bad quality):

Lines around the screen are perfectly straight, but something about the video playing and my camera makes them look curved.

Browsing music on the hard drive. Very responsive, no delay at all like ipod interfaces.

Main Navigation Screen

Music playing screen with navigation screen embedded. Looks a lot like the eclipse with the tomtom built in.

Sorry for the bad video quality, it was off a cell phone.

newegg for the mobo, processor, and ram.

ebay for the gps and power supply.

And I bought the screen off a coworker.

The power supply actually isnt the standard ac to dc power supply because that would require an inverter, I used a dc to dc regulator since cars and computers both operate on 12 volts and figured it to be inneffecient to convert dc to ac and then back to dc.

DAMNNNNN! Nice Grand Am. I was going to put a monitor in there with a separate dvd player but mount it into the dash. Now you have me thinking a lil bit differently.

Heres some shots of the dash fabrication to give you an idea.

Thats the front bezel of the lcd mounted in so the rear housing (containing all the guts) can just screw on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

About how much did you spend total on that. I'd love to do it.
And do you still have a functional cd player?

I'm a car pc noob.
You can spend as much or as little as you want really. I've seen $500 setups and others well into the thousands. I think for a great amount of features and solid equipment, every single wire, screw, can of paint, etc. included you're going to spend about $1000.

And about the functional CD player, you can do it any way you want. Some people keep a regular HU in their dash, and just route the computer sound through the aux input, other people completely eliminate their HU and run the PC directly to an amp(s). If you go the second route then you just need to put a CD-ROM drive on the computer.

awesome! carputers can get very addicting //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

also i wish you had bought an xenarc instead of that lilli //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Nothing wrong with Lilliput. Unless you absolutely need transreflictive....although in his case he probably does given that the monitor has absolutely no cover.
I went through 2 lilliputs, quality isnt the same. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

edit: the xenarcs are transreflective?
