Carbon Fiber?

Was just thinkin about this today because I love the look of it, but absolutely hate it when there's a CF hood that doesnt match the rest of the car. Would it be as stupid as those ricer wings to get a car painted like that? Or could somebody even pull off that effect with paint (to have it look as if the car was made from CF?

Has anybody actually done it, or seen it done? I'm not about to get my truck painted, just toying around with the idea.

That would be an EXTREMELY expensive paint job.

And it would be pretty gay IMO. If you want CF everything, have panels molded. Much $$, but at least then you actually get the weight reduction benefits that the CF is for in the first place.

i could care less about weight in my v6 truck with a 300 lb box in the back loaded with 30 lb woofers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif its more about looks then anything, originality. its hard to think of something to do on a show car/truck that hasnt been done time and time again.

anyone else?

Meh.... there is a technique for a painted carbon fiber look & I don't think it'd cost anything more than a normal 'custom' paint job..

If you replaced every panel w/ACTUAL carbon fiber, you're looking at some big dollars.

Carbon fiber is exotic because of it's cost and it's performance. This makes it attractive and is the reason why people like seeing it.

I personally couldn't personally think of anything more worthless IMO than a car completely PAINTED to look like carbon fiber.

100% form, 0% function. And that form, IMO is completely defined by the function in the first place.

That would be my personal reasoning behind my opinion.

you could just sand the entire car down and lay a layer of CF onto every panel. i don't see how it's not possible but could be quite challenging. i'd say do more research.
then u'd spend the money on the CF but get none of the benefits since ur not replacing anything, that would be a worse idea than doing the paint thing.

btw, who's the chick in ur ava? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

lol, but that's a zonda. And if u look at the price tag of one, u'll soon realize that CF can't be cheap

He asked if anyone's ever seen it. He wants to paint his car in "carbon fiber", so I'm assuming he wants it to look as realistic as possible.

That is what a car "painted carbon fiber" will look like.

i just did a quick tally up of some CF from a site i purchase resin from.

a 20Yard roll at 50"wide CF 5.7oz plain weave is 34.50 a yard comes out to 690. even with 20 yards i'm sure you could most likely cover the entire vehicle and still have left over. as stated he is not looking for a lighweight vehicle due to the car being a truck with additional so replacing all the panels would most likely come out a lot more expensive. the only real benefit he would be getting out of it would be the CF look and added strenght.

i'm sure custome painting a CF look onto an entire car would be a lot more expensive.

if you have any taste you can make anything work.

Jeremy's amazing show car. hood
