Ok i am no the smartest guy in the world when it comes to automobiles but this may be a simple question. When its cold outside and i start up my car, my gear wont go down to drive. I tried letting my car warm up for extra long periods of time, but still no trouble. It seems like it wants me to wrestle with it for about 10min or so, then it finally goes into drive or the gear i want. Its really getting annoying. I have a 96 4door Honda Accord LX if that counts for something. Pleas help ASAP so i can get this problem solved. Thanks in advanced

I use to hava the same problem with a 1990 grand prix ste. It wouldnt move from park. I had to play with it alot and force it to the point where it seemed like it was gonna break. After about a week of that it just quit doing it all together. Idk why it did that but could it maybe be from freezing up during winter?????

Do you have it parked on a hill or a steep grade? If so put parking brake on before you put it in park, then put it in drive before you release the parking brake. I dont know about it any further then that but just a thought.

nope its not parked on a hill or slope. I have a flat drive way. and you described it perfectly. I have to play with it alot and to the point where it feels like its gonna break. I hope mines stops soon, but i just want to get this fixed

sounds like something is nice and frozen in the transmission...

take it in... could even be a larger issue... they don't tend to just fix themselves //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

ps - moving forums...

94 Honda Accord.. floor shifter... Sounds like your transmission shift cable is freezing up. I doubt it's anything internal, the transmission has fluid in it theres no way anything inside it will freeze. Take a ride to your local parts store and get a price for a shifter cable.
