Car specific question...

Has anyone delt with replacing the dash speakers in a square body sonoma? I'm replacing the ones in my girl's truck. Her dad is the only one to attempt to buy speakers and he says that the mounting depth is too shallow and only a certain few pairs will fit. I know they're 4x6's but shouldn't any shallow mount 4x6 work. I could just tear into her truck and find out but if anyone has any experience with these, help would be appreciated.

ps- unfortunately fiberglass pods are not an option seeing as i'm here on vacation for a short time.

ps2- should i just base everyhting off of same year s10's seeing as its almost the same truck? ie:spekers, dash insert, wiring connecter.
