Car pc/ Sony XPD-210eq

I have a Question I would like to get ideas on. I want to go with a carpc in the place of a hu but I am really worried about the quality of the soundcards available. I have a sony Mobile es XDP-210EQ that is a digital pre-amp/EQ/crossover. It has a digital optical in and from what I understand 20 bit burr brown DAC's.

My question is does anybody think it is feasible to make a software program to control this via a pc?

It would be tough!! IIRC, the 210 was only controlled through the H/U. If you had a XDP400 you would have a better chance, since it was designed to work that way. I guess with someone from sony helping you might be able to get it to work!!

yes you are correct it is only controlled via unilink. I have seen a project that emulated a unilink cd player so someone could hook up a mp3 player to a unilink HU but nothing on this scale.

It would be difficult, since you are also manipulating the signal, not just track and folder. I guess it's possible, but it'll be hard!!! I just don't think it'll be worth it.
